Article is about the recent catastrophic impacts of climate
change in West and Central Africa countries and explain the importance of emergency
preparedness and response plan for climate impacts. This article exposes the extent of
vulnerability of West Africa countries to climate change disaster. Flooding is
evidence impact of climate change that affect the socio economic /livelihoods
of the millions of people in Africa. What is worth noting in this article in
the fact that Africa counties are already hit with hunger or food insecurity and
with the advent of climate change impact will exacerbate poverty. The article focus
on the relationship between climate change impact and food availability, price
of food and hunger in Africa. The scenario is an eye opener to Africa decision
makers to provide and implement stronger policies that would improve adaptation
and strengthen resilience.
Non-Government Organization WPF are very crucial in
responding to disaster in Africa, although they are currently responding by
dashing out cash for food in Africa, however, strengthen the Africa countries’
food sovereignty is crucial at this time as the estimated increased in climate
change impact would exacerbate the poverty level and food crises.
I found this short article interesting because of many
debates I have listened who to pay the cost for climate change impacts. Many researched
have estimate the impact of climate change to be huge in Africa, all because of
their vulnerability and poverty, and lack of technology and capacity to response
to the impacts of climate change. Africa largely depend on unreliable rain fed Agriculture
with low technology, slash and burn method polluting the air, flooding and
drought combined make it worst. This article focuses on media dissemination of climate
change impact as major strategy for awareness and adaptation. This can be very
effective at local levels.
This article is describing the level denier of climate
change at policy level. Like flooding in the West Africa countries, the Huricane
Ian hit Florida and the caused infrastructural damages. Climate change could
cause greater damage.
